Fire Tests

Document and data media cabinets are tested to determine how long they will survive in a fire.

Did You Know...
Paper will combust at around 170°C - whether in contact with flames or not - and data media is destroyed long before that, at only 50°C.

Fire Testing Procedure
Our document and data media cabinets are placed into a furnace and exposed to temperatures approaching and sometimes over 1000°C for one to two hours. Then the cabinet is allowed to cool down. This simulates a real office fire - both the temperatures reached and the cooling period.

In certain cases, the cabinet undergoes a drop test to simulate falling through several floors of a building when hot.

If the paper documents or data media inside the cabinets are still intact by the end of the test, a certificate is awarded stating what length of protection the safe offers and for which type of material.
